The Engineering Manager is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing manufacturing processes that align with company goals for quality, efficiency, and innovation. This role also oversees quality assurance and cost control within the engineering and production environment. In addition to driving process development and improvement, the Engineering Manager provides cross-functional support across departments, responding to technical challenges and leading effective resolution. The position requires close collaboration with leadership to address operational issues and support company-wide initiatives.

This position reports to the VP of Operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Process and Product Engineering team across Proficium’s manufacturing locations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield, quality, cost reduction, and process efficiency.
  • Own and maintain all process documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), control plans, and process flows.
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues related to process deviations, product performance, and customer feedback.
  • Lead structured problem-solving and root cause analysis using tools such as 8D, FMEA, and DMAIC.
  • Support CAPEX planning and execution for new equipment and process capability enhancements.
  • Manage, maintain, and upgrade manufacturing process equipment to meet production goals and improve reliability.
  • Execute project deliverables in coordination with vendors, internal teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Prepare and manage engineering budgets and project timelines; supervise and mentor other engineers and technical staff.
  • Develop and implement safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing processes.
  • Plan and oversee production activities in alignment with demand forecasts and quality standards.
  • Coordinate and monitor the work of engineers, technicians, and other team members to ensure timely and quality output.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment for feasibility, scalability, and alignment with business needs.
  • Develop product drawings and specifications that comply with industry standards and meet customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and performance requirements for personnel and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electromechanical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Electronics); Master’s or Ph.D. in an engineering field is highly desirable.
  • 8+ years of experience in product, process, or quality engineering within a high-tech or optical manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic assembly and testing; experience with optical transceivers is a plus.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a high sense of urgency.
  • Proficient in data analysis tools, process mapping, and manufacturing metrics.
  • Hands-on problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, IPC standards, and Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers (CMs), suppliers, and external partners.
